Q: Of the 6 Allen bolts on the RH inner CVJ, I found two to be broken. I had to get new ones and get the broken ends out. Also the gaiters of the inner CVJ are just too much in the way of the bolts. It is difficult to get the bolts back in.
A: First, you must clean the recess of the Allen screws, second you can only undo (or put on) the screw at the top of the inner CV joint, thus you must rotate the shaft for each screw, third you need very good Allen key bits with a flexible coupling and a long extension, fourth you must block the shaft to prevent its rotation as you work on each screw. If you follow these precautions then it is usually not too difficult to work on this part. Fifth and MOST importantly you must raise the shaft away from the subframe with a jack to allow accurate centering of the screws.
