Q: I tried to put some grease through the nipples on the shift stick mechanism:
I couldn't get any grease through the bottom nipple close to the stick with the stick in neutral. I unscrewed and tested the nipple. The nipple is ok.
A: First, the gear lever must be in neutral; second, even if the nipple is not blocked by old grease/dirt, you need a very high pressure grease gun. Make sure that you first bleed all the air out of the gun and apply two strong squirts of lithium based high melting point grease.
- Andrea - How does one get to the top nipple at the front?
A: You need a long, flexible rubber extension to your grease gun. The one I have is about 50 cm long. Keep the grearbox in neutral. The alternative is to remove the black box which collects the rain water from the bonnet air intake. This in itself is a fairly fiddly procedure.
